The top is a fingerprint magnet because of the shiny black surface, but I don't care much about that. The LED is attractive and gives a good visual indicator that the hard drive is connected or being accessed. The cord that is included is not proprietary. It is one of the standard types of USB 3.0 cables (I can't remember if it is mini or micro). It is too short for my preferences, though. The hard drive comes with software (not a CD, but loaded onto the hard drive) that boosts transfer speeds on PC but doesn't work with Macs. Again, not a big deal to me. My reason for buying the hard drive was to move files from a PC to a Mac. This required initial reformatting of the hard drive, using software that was already on the hard drive. I installed the software to my PC and reformatted the hard drive to FAT32. The limitation of FAT32 is that you cannot save individual files that are greater than 4GB in size. No... Performance does appear to be on par with the WD Passport drive that crapped out on me after 2 years. In terms of cons, I gave this product four stars because it uses what appears to be proprietary USB cable rather than the standard mini or micro usb connection. This may be due to the 3.0 compliance, but, in any case, it means that if I loose the included cable or don't have it handy, I can't substitute a standard micro usb cable in its place. I will reserve final judgment on this product after I see how it holds up to punishment. |
